Jesus told parables so His creation could better understand Him, the Father, and the Holy Spirit.

In your reading, Jesus shares some parables with the townspeople. In these stories, people are described as seeds in a field that grow up to become plants. Those who hear, accept, and believe in the word of God are like seeds that grow in nutritious soil and are fed water and get sunlight. They become healthy plants, or righteous people. But those who do not accept Jesus after hearing about Him are like seeds that don't ever sprout, or like plants that get strangled by weeds.
The truth is, we all have moments of doubt or laziness in our hearts when it comes to hearing God. Perhaps we are at church, and instead of listening, we zone out and daydream about our favorite TV show. Or maybe we hear about Jesus from a friend. But instead of caring, we change the subject. It probably happens more often than we'd like to admit. But Jesus is kind and allows us time in our lives to accept Him.
We must be careful though not to take our lives or Jesus's kindness for granted. We read what happens to the weeds. We have a choice to make, and choosing Him means choosing life.
