God's first rule in the famous 10 commandments is:

When we sin, we are basically making ourselves into our own "god"! Your reading in 2nd Timothy chapter 2 sums it up like this: "People will be lovers of themselves..."

The 7 deadly sins are common sins that people make in loving themselves over anyone else:

1) Pride "I am better than everyone else!"

2) Anger " I hate everyone else!"

3) Laziness "I don't care to do anything for anyone"

4) Greed "I want more, and I want it now!"

5) Lust "I will use anyone for my own physical enjoyment"

6) Gluttony "Nothing can fill me up or satisfy me!"

7) Envy "What I have is not enough, I want what everyone else has!"

There are more sins than these 7 alone, but identifying these 7 can help us be aware of other sins.
